Great Brainteaser Activities Aug 04, 2005
By Cynthia Powers I teach high school science and use these puzzles as warm-up activities to begin class. In addition to being fun, the puzzles increase my students vocabularies, improve their reasoning skills and just plain wake up their brains. Since the puzzles range from fairly basic to darn complicated, there's something for every level of student ability. I've used the puzzles from the first book (excellent, btw) for so long that I HAD to get this new book for the kids who are taking a second or third class from me. I have as much fun with these as my students do!

By teacher Finally a book of varied puzzles to break the Sudoku addiction. If you make a point to listen to Will and Lianne on Sunday mornings, you have to get this collection of NPR on air challenges. Great fun while traveling.

Wish the page layout respected the puzzles Jun 20, 2010
By Dean Baird In the original volume 1, each puzzle was allowed to occupy a page. The form fit the function.
Someone with the publisher decided a penny could be saved if they could jam the puzzles closer together, so volume 2 loses the form/function synergy.
I'll nourish a hope that volume 3 will return to the appropriate formatting of the original volume 1.
Will Shortz is still a genius, though, and his puzzles are... ingenious!

Endlessly challenging and addicting. Nov 10, 2009

I found the first edition of Will Shortz's puzzle books while on vacation at the Oregon Coast, and finished it in a few days. I immediately looked for another in book stores, but could not find another. Then I tried good old reliable Amazon and had a new book in a few days. These puzzles are challenging, but doable. I am a crossword puzzle buff, cannot do the New York Times Sunday puzzle by Will but I can handle almost all the puzzles in the book.

I really enjoy the Sunday Puzzle and it is much easier when Leann Hanson and Will Shortz are helping you. They are a fun and challenging diversion. Maybe I should eat more brain food...
