Mixed Reactions Aug 07, 2006
By J. David Roberts I was disappointed at the small size of many of the puzzles. Some were as small as 4x4 and took less than 1 minute to solve for anyone who has worked Kakuro puzzles before. Half of the puzzles were 9x9 or smaller. However, this could make the book attractive to those new to Kakuro...they could develop some sense of accomplishment on the early, small and easy puzzles. Another positive, 20% of the puzzles were hybrid Kakuro-Sodoku puzzles. I've not seen these elsewhere and I found them delightfully challenging and complicated.

Big Book of Kakuro Jan 30, 2007

This is a good book to begin your Kakuro experience. The instructions are well-written. The puzzles begin very simply, getting increasingly more difficult as you progress through the book. Squares are big. Lots of room to write notes in the margins. Definitely THE book to start with.

I am an avid CrossSums fan and I am definitely finding this book challenging and I have not even started the difficult ones yet.

kakuro for first graders May 18, 2009
By Michael Q. Burkhalter If I was five and had just learned addition this might be difficult, but i doubt it. Even for a beginner who had never done kakuro this would be too simple.
Good for beginners, otherwise skip this book Jul 21, 2010
By Angel Biezeman Although I'm not an expert, I've done quite a few Kakuro puzzles. This book was disappointing to me, a lot of puzzles were very small (and if you're gonna go with such small puzzles, why not print two on a page so the book is lighter?) and not challenging at all. Even the 'difficult' puzzles I could solve without thinking too hard. The last part of the book was Sudoku/Kakuro hybrids, and although they were a little bit tougher (you need to change your mindset), I could have done without them (40 out of 200 were hybrids - if I wanted hybrids, I'd buy a book for that).
All in all, not for the kakuro lovers that have done other books already. There was a good introduction for beginners, so if you want to figure out what this Kakuro thing is about, this will probably be a good point to start.
