Take the Kakuro Challenge: 200 Addictive Logic Puzzles

Kakuro is already sweeping Japan—it’s a phenomenon even more addictive than sudoku—and now it’s here. An ingenious blend of numbers and logic, kakuro offers the supreme challenge for puzzlers of all ages. It’s played on grids of various sizes, offering different levels of difficulty. The object is to make each row add up to the number given at the top (for down rows) or the left (for across rows). Like sudoku, it uses only the numbers from 1 to 9, each appearing no more than once in each row. Here are 200 irresistibly engaging puzzles, graded from “Easy” to “Fiendish,” plus tips on how to master them. Win or lose, it always adds up to fun.

5Extremely Addictive  Sep 21, 2011
By Aaron Rogers
I bought this book 3 years ago and worked through all the puzzles, thoroughly loving them. The puzzles are simple through very difficult, although the very difficult ones are not much harder -- they just take longer to do. But the difficulty level proved just right. I could pick up an easy puzzle and solve it in one minute, then jump to a hard one for an hour's entertainment. I would frequently do 2, 5, and even 10 in a row. Very hard to put down.

After completing the book, I moved on to several other puzzle books (Heyawake, Nurikabe, Masyu, etc.). Missing this book, I bought *another* copy a few months ago and I am almost finished. The great thing about puzzle books, when you find a good one, you can buy it again at a later date and it is like I never saw it before. Seriously, do you think I remember what number goes in the upper right corner of page 146?

Great book. I love the material of the pages. I don't rip them when I have to erase. The puzzles were great!

5My new fave!!! edit 7/19/11  Apr 10, 2011

This is the best Kakuro book I have--nice, white, easily erased paper; pages are sewn rather than glued (really important for a book with such a hard life); and difficulty that makes me think without stumping me into torrents of frustration. EXTREMELY highly recommended!!!

edit: I now have/had 3 of these, so I'm all ears for suggestions for different ones similar to this!

5Best out there!  Mar 19, 2011
By A. S. Louis
I play Kakuro every night as I fall asleep and this is the 4th kind I've tried and I must say it is my absolute favorite! The different levels are well organized, the only thing is the "hard" level is in the middle and it is definitely the hardest level in the book. I find the tester and expert levels to be most enjoyable.

I'd strongly recommend this for anyone who wants to get into Kakuro, or who already loves it.
