Satisfies the gamer and the quilter in you Sep 18, 2010
By Barbara Rhoades
"Jackie of all Trades"
Are you a quilter AND a game players? Do you like Sudoku? Then this is a book where you can enjoy both at the same time! Ms. Hershey even goes so far as to explain what Sudoku is all about.
The first pages, after explaining Sudoku, are about making the blocks and doing a block swaps with the game in mind. The author doesn't provide several pages of basic quilting techniques (don't we know most of them anyway?) but she does make a suggestion to another book in case you would need a refresher.
Since the Sudoku quilt is a basic nine patch block, most of us know this simple design. The harder part is getting the puzzle side of the quilt right. Each project has a full color photo and states the finished quilt, small block and large block sizes.
Then there is a blurb about the quilt before the materials and cutting lists are given. The graphics provided are also in full color which helps you to see the Sudoku part of the quilt more easily. Tips are provided in colored boxes throughout the book. Quilt as desired is stated but there are also a few suggestions on a couple of the patterns.
As an avid gamer/quilter, I can't wait to try one!
good timing - rough travel May 07, 2009
By Karen B. Obrien I love the small book. It was in the condition that was promised but the mails had mauled it. However, for my use it was fine. Thanks.
Sudoku Quilts Mar 23, 2009
By Cathy C. Jackson This book has several patterns that will be fun to do. I bought the book to make a quilt out of some 1/2 yd cuts and FQ's of Oriental fabrics. I saw another one done at a retreat and decided to use my fabrics up in this quilt. Overall the patterns are good for all levels and the directions seem good as well. Cathy in TN
The approach will appeal to quilters beyond sudoku game fans Jun 09, 2007
By Midwest Book Review Cyndi Hershey's SUDOKU QUILTS provides four fine patterns which use the game-like presentation to display rows and block columns, each in three-by-three squares of different colors and fabrics. The approach will appeal to quilters beyond sudoku game fans: they provide new options for quilts and substitute colors and fabrics for the game's design patterns.
