Badly flawed Jul 31, 2007
By James Bond Sudoku puzzles are supposed to have only one unique solution. In the most difficult section of 9 x 9 puzzles (the "brown belt" chapter), 8 of the 20 puzzles have multiple solutions (91,97,100,102,103,104,108,109). I spot checked other sections, and found that problems are there as well. Level of difficulty for "toughest" section is also only at lower-intermediate. Authors should check their puzzle-generation software before publishing!

Flawed Jul 24, 2006
By A. Clum For the most part, this book is a really great way to get started in Sudoku and learn the ropes. However, at the beginning of the Blue Belt section, it says that solutions are not up for debate...that there is only one solution for each puzzle. On puzzle 91, I found that some of the numbers were, in fact, interchangable and still logical and valid solutions. For a book from the praised Sudoku Institute in Japan, I would expect more.
Yes, it is flawed, but this is a nice place to start Mar 09, 2009

I must agree that this specific Sudoku puzzle book has some flawed puzzles. Some of the puzzles have alternate solutions. That should not be the case with a quality Sudoku puzzle.
I learned how to play Sudoku from this Sudoku Mania book. This book helped me to graduate from a beginner to a fairly strong solver. The book also has little tips that have helped-- little things like walking away from a puzzle after getting stuck or giving a warning to not get frustrated if it seems your solving "mojo" suddenly leaves you after effortlessly solving a series of difficult puzzles.
Again, this was my first Sudoku book to own. So, I'm a little biased. But the tips still stay with me, though. And the book has a range of easy puzzles to difficult. Great for first time learners, in my opinion.
And I sort of liked the fact that I realized the flaws. That helped me realize that I really understood what I was doing. I was getting good enough to know that even the answers in the book were sometimes wrong.
I took it as validation of my skill, more so than a flaw in the book.
And for the record, most of the puzzles are good. Relative to the number of puzzles in the book, not that many have flawed alternate answers.
