Too many easy ones Aug 07, 2007 I bought this one based on the recommendation of a previous review by someone who has worked through over 20 Sudoku books. I had also worked over a dozen of Sudoku books myself, and was looking for one that contains mostly advanced puzzles. I do not want to spend money on easy puzzles. The phrase "Grand Mater" in the title of this book also appeared promising.
The book indeed is "a nice size and have good, smooth paper -- much nicer to work on with a mechanical pencil" just as the previous review said. There are 100 puzzle, and I was dismayed to see that they were divided into 4 parts - Easy, Mild, Difficult and Fiendish. I started working on Difficult, and found out that they are really rather easy. I ended up with only 20 puzzles in Fiendish to indulge myself.
This is the second volume of this series. I do not understand the logic of publishing such a series in which every volume contains puzzles for beginners to the 'masters'. Once the readers have passed the beginner stage, all thy want is advanced stuffs. And they keep moving up.
I am disappointed.
Get it for the paper quality May 06, 2007 I've worked my way through at least 20 books of Sudoku puzzles, but now I only buy Wayne Gould New York Post puzzles. Will Shortz or Wayne Gould -- the puzzles are basically the same. But the Wayne Gould books are a nice size and have good, smooth paper -- much nicer to work on with a mechanical pencil.
