top quality puzzles Feb 27, 2007
By Mamkotke The editors have assembled a set of puzzles that explores the various patterns and approaches of each puzzle genre. The collection does not feel the least bit repetitive.
This is one of the two most satisfying puzzle books I've had the pleasure of owning (the other being Mensa's "Challenge Your Brain Math & Logic Puzzles").

Thankfully, no sudoku Apr 24, 2008
By Joseph Dewey I really like pencil puzzles, and I graduated in math, so you think I'd love sudoku. I don't for some reason. And, luckily, there's no sudoku in this book.
I found this book, because I started playing this game called Slither Link online, and that's one of the 7 or so different puzzles in this book. I was familiar with a few of the puzzles, and some are new, so it's a nice balance between stuff I already knew and introducing me to cool new puzzles.
The binding will probably fall apart by the time you're done with the book, especially if you're like me and rip out a few pages to give to friends to use. But none of the puzzles go over the pages--each puzzle is only one one page, so it's not that big of a deal if the pages fall out. You can always just stuff a few pages in another book, and take that with you.

beyond sudoku Sep 15, 2009

Did not care for this book, poor binding as another reviewer mentioned. Instructions fair at best. I ended up selling the book at a garage sale.

By Jimmy Mason This is a good mix of puzzles. If you like Japanese logic puzzles then I completely recommend this book.

graphic-oriented sudoku puzzle variations Sep 22, 2007
By audrey I am pretty good at sudoku, but not a genius by any means. I enjoy kakuro as well (also known as cross sums) and looked forward to trying the sudoku variations listed in this book.
I think there are some puzzlers who would really enjoy this book, but I am not one of them. Almost all of the eight games are graphical in nature, so that you are solving in order to create pictures or to leave cells correctly colored or to draw borders around or between cells correctly. There are 15 of each type of game.
These aren't the types of puzzle I enjoy, though you might.
